Hurrian and Luwian Elements in the Kizzuwatna Religious Texts

Abstract Kizzuwatna, roughly the area around present-day Turkish city of Adana in plains Cilicia Southeastern Turkey, is known to be origin several magical ritual texts that were found archives Hittite Capital, Ḫattuša, Central Anatolia. These are characterized by varying amounts Luwian and Hurrian elements rites them. This article, however, aims foreground festival with connections Kizzuwatna adjacent regions, namely “Festival for Teššub Ḫebat Lawazantiya (CTH 699)” “Cults Aleppo 698)”. Both festivals reveal very little Luwian, but they do exhibit obvious influences. article offers first thoughts toward an interpretation lack these texts, along other alleged Anatolia or Northern Syria.
